On September 29, 2013 at approximately 2:30 p.m. Metro 911 dispatched Deputy S. W. Hunter to a crash at Quincy Hollow and Route 60 in Kanawha County. A Chevrolet Silverado pickup being operated by Heather Marchal, 29 years old of Campbell’s Creek, struck a vehicle in front of her which was stopped at an intersection. The impact forced the struck vehicle into another vehicle ahead of it, causing three automobiles damage. Mrs. Marchal, her five children (aged 8 months to 11 years), and four occupants of the other vehicles were transported to area hospitals.
During an inventory of Mrs. Marchal’s vehicle indications of illegal drug use were found. Pending testing at the West Virginia State Police Laboratory, one of the substances was identified as heroin.
Questions were raised about the use of child safety seats in Mrs. Marchal’s vehicle. Also, the WV DHHR Child Protective Services sent investigators to the hospitals that night.
As of this date no charges have been sought in the matter. An investigation is ongoing into circumstances surrounding the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact Deputy S. W. Hunter at 304-357-0169.
