May 25, 2014: Crash on I-77

A vehicle traveling south on I-77 near mile marker 104 exited the interstate at a construction zone and landed on its top on Surface Drive, near Newhouse Road, outside of the City of Charleston.  The vehicle exited at or near an overpass of Surface Drive.  Inside the maroon Buick was the driver, who was trapped until extricated by first responders. 


The driver was then taken to Charleston Area Medical Center’s General Division.  Additional information on the driver is unavailable at this time.  The driver’s identity may be distributed later tonight or tomorrow morning.


The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction unit is investigating the incident.
