In the early morning hours of January 8, 2016 Christopher P. Young (47 years old of Elkview, WV) was arrested and charged with wanton endangerment, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and obstructing an officer by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy K. T. Carte and others were dispatched to the 4000 block of Indian Creek Road in the Elkview area for a male screaming and striking an attached garage.
While Deputy Sheriffs were on their way to the scene 911 dispatchers still had a caller on the phone. Gun shots were heard in the background of the call. Upon arrival the Deputies saw Mr. Young at the garage as they turned into the driveway of the residence. Mr. Young turned to face them, taking a stance as if he were aiming a firearm at them. Mr. Young then turned and ran a short distance, but stopped at a fence.
He fought the Deputies while they attempted to handcuff him, yelling, “Shoot me! Just put me down!” He was handcuffed and detained.
In a front pants pocket they found a .22 caliber revolver with five spent casings. During the subsequent investigation Deputies discovered one bullet struck a nearby house.
Mr. Young was taken to South Central Regional Jail to await arraignment this morning. As is always the case in criminal matters, the charges against Mr. Young are merely accusations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
