On February 10, 2016, just after 2:00 a.m., a robbery was reported at the 7-Eleven store on Spencer Road near Clendenin, WV. Deputies from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched by Metro 911.
The clerk reported a man in a navy hoodie, jeans, and a coat came into the store with his face covered. He demanded money and cigarettes as he displayed a knife. He then left the store on foot.
Deputy Sheriffs and a Clendenin Police Officer arrived on scene soon after the first 911 call. One of them, Deputy J. L. Miller, had his K9 partner Max track the suspect’s movement. The dog tracked the suspect from the front of the store, down Spencer Road, Thorofare Road, through several creek crossings, and finally to Leuven Lane. Altogether the track distance was 1.5 miles, took 55 minutes, and was done in sub-freezing temperatures with snow falling.
At a residence on Leuven Lane they located and subsequently arrested Kajun Russell Cossin, 30 years old of Clendenin, WV. At his residence they found clothes worn during the robbery, and in his pockets they found several stolen items. He is being charged with first degree robbery, a felony.
Attached is a mugshot from his arrest. As is the case in all criminal matters, the charge against Mr. Cossin is merely an accusation. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
