July 5, 2016: Arrest for Obtaining Under False Pretenses

On July 1, 2016 Sergeant D. H. Duff of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office stopped a Honda minivan in Sissonville.  The driver, Samantha Peck (28 of Sissonville, WV) was stopped for speeding and other traffic offenses after having been followed by an unmarked Deputy Sheriff’s vehicle from the Elkview area.

Ms. Peck picked up diapers, food, baby wipes, hand tools, a small purse, and other items at a disaster relief center.  Ms. Peck lives in Sissonville, and neither she or her residence were impacted by flooding.  The items were worth several hundred dollars.

Ms. Peck was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor, obtaining goods under false pretenses.  She was arraigned and her bond was set at $5,000 cash by Magistrate Shelton.  Attached is a picture of the stolen items taken by arresting Deputy Sheriffs on the shoulder of the interstate during the traffic stop.

As is always the case in criminal matters the charges against Ms. Peck are merely accusations.  She is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
