December 6, 2017: Fatal Crash Yesterday on Greenbrier Street

Yesterday morning at 6:22 a.m. Deputy Burks was dispatched to a crash on Greenbrier Street near Capitol Flea Market for a crash.  Two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision and both drivers were trapped in the wreckage of their cars.  A gray Subaru Outback and a Blue Jeep Wrangler were in the roadway along with debris from both vehicles.

When Deputy Burks arrived firefighters were still trying to extricate the drivers.  When they were removed both were transported to Charleston Area Medical Center’s General Division for treatment.  The crash scene was examined by a Reconstruction Expert, Corporal Lester, who concluded the Subaru drove into the opposite lane striking the Jeep.

The driver of the Jeep was interviewed at the hospital and said he was traveling south on Greenbrier Street when the Subaru came toward him in his lane causing the crash.  The Subaru was being driven north on Greenbrier Street.

The driver of the Subaru, Joseph William Dustin (20 of Saint Albans, WV) was pronounced dead at the hospital at 8:26 a.m.  He died as an apparent result of his injuries, though an autopsy will be conducted and reveal the cause of death.

The Subaru was a stolen vehicle.  It was reported stolen on December 4, 2017 to the Nitro Police Department.  That investigation is ongoing through their office.

There were no other passengers in the vehicles.  Though how the crash occurred was revealed through evidence at the scene, why the crash occurred is still unknown.
