High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Crash on I-64 Near Marmet
Kanawha County, WV – On October 27, 2025, the Charleston Police Department issued a be-on-the-lookout (BOLO) for a Ford F-250 with Michigan license plates after the vehicle nearly struck a Charleston Police cruiser while traveling the wrong way before speeding through the City of Charleston. The same vehicle also reportedly came close to hitting a man and woman in the area of Hunt Avenue.
Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office located the truck traveling east on Kanawha Boulevard, being followed by two Charleston Police cruisers. After passing Daniel Boone Park, the driver accelerated rapidly, reportedly reaching speeds near 100 mph and crossing into oncoming lanes before entering Interstate 64 toward Belle. At that point, Kanawha County deputies assumed primary responsibility for the pursuit.
The pursuit continued along I-64, where the vehicle maintained speeds exceeding 90 mph. Spike strips were deployed but were unsuccessful in stopping the truck. As the chase reached the Marmet area, the driver began traveling on the shoulder and forcing other motorists off the roadway.
After passing through the toll booth, the driver lost control near the 71-mile marker and crashed. The male driver remains entrapped, and emergency crews are working to safely extract him.
No deputies or members of the public have been reported injured. The incident remains under investigation, and criminal charges are pending. The identity of the driver is not known at this time.
Further information will be released as it becomes available.
