Arrest after pursuit

Kanawha County, WV – October 28, 2025

Kanawha County Deputy Pursues and Arrests Fleeing Driver

Kanawha County Deputies were involved in a vehicle pursuit on October 28, 2025, at approximately 5:40 PM. Deputy Nichols initiated a traffic stop at the Exxon in Marmet on a blue Nissan Sentra. When the deputy exited his vehicle, the vehicle sped away.

The pursuit continued onto Lens Creek Road, ending when the suspect’s vehicle crashed on Four Mile Road. The driver then attempted to flee on foot. Deputy Nichols chased the suspect and successfully took Matthew Stover, 39, of Eskdale, WV, into custody.

Mr. Stover will face charges for Fleeing while Driving Under the Influence and possibly other miscellaneous traffic charges.

Deputies remind motorists that fleeing law enforcement is dangerous and puts everyone on the road at risk.
