Names Released in Fatal Crash on Lens Creek Road

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is releasing additional information regarding the fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 4:53 p.m. in the 2000 block of Lens Creek Road.

The SUV was driven by Kayla Jacobs, who was also the mother of the juvenile who died as a result of the crash. The juvenile passenger, 8-year-old Ethelyn Grubb, was seated in the front passenger seat and was pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision.  Kayla Jacobs was transported from the scene by medics for treatment.

The SUV collided head-on with a Mullen’s Plumbing, Heating and Cooling utility van driven by Jimmy Hager. Hager was transported from the scene by medics for treatment.

Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate the SUV driven by Kayla Jacobs was traveling in the wrong lane at the time of the collision.

This crash and circumstances that resulted in the death of Ethelyn Grubb remains under investigation by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to the family, community and all those affected by this tragic incident.
