Sissonville man arrested for sexual assault of a minor
Sissonville, WV – Detective Alford with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office arrested William Roy Mooney, 62, of Sissonville, West Virginia, on January 7, 2026 in connection with a sexual assault investigation conducted by members of our Patrol & Field Operations C-Shift.
Mooney has been charged with Sexual Assault in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse by a Parent, Guardian, Custodian, or Person in a Position of Trust to a Child.
It is alleged that over the past year, Mooney sexually assaulted a family member under the age of 18. The investigation revealed that he allegedly instructed the minor not to tell anyone about the abuse.
During an interview with detectives, Mooney admitted to the allegations.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office commends the victim for the courage and bravery it took to come forward and report the abuse. Speaking up in cases like this is extremely difficult, and the victim’s strength played a critical role in stopping further harm.
Mooney was arrested by Detective Alford and subsequently arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court. He is currently being held at South Central Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
