Kanawha County Deputies Make Two Arrests at Same Business in Three Days
South Charleston – Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office deputies made two separate arrests at the same business within a three-day period following reports of criminal activity at Mazzella Quarries in South Charleston.
On Friday, January 9, 2026, members of the Patrol and Field Operations Division B-Shift were dispatched to a breaking and entering in progress at Mazzella Quarries. At the time the call was received, Detective Keadle was already in the area investigating a prior larceny that had occurred at the same location. Detective Keadle responded within minutes, detained a male suspect, and identified him as Joshua Clendenin, 35 of Alum Creek, WV. Clendenin was arrested for Breaking and Entering by B-Shift Deputy Sergeant.
On Sunday, January 11, 2026 at 4:00 p.m., Sgt. Coleman arrived at Mazzella Quarries to conduct extra patrol in reference to the previous incidents. Upon arrival, Sgt. Coleman met with the property owner, who advised that there was currently an individual on the property. An associate of the owner blocked the suspect vehicle from leaving and located the male on the opposite side of a nearby creek. Deputies determined the suspect had removed two antique copper radiators from the property and was attempting to steal them when he was caught in the act. The male was identified as Brian Elswick, 45 of Charleston, WV and was charged with Attempted Grand Larceny by a B-Shift Deputy Sergeant.
Both incidents were quickly resolved due to the coordinated and proactive efforts of Patrol and Field Operations Division B-Shift Deputies and Detective Keadle.
Additional assistance was provided by Deputy H. Burdette, Deputy Murphy, West Virginia State Police Trooper A. Kirk, and the South Charleston Police Department.
