North Carolina Man Arrested in Cabin Creek Road Homicide Investigation

CHARLESTON, WV – The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect in connection with a homicide investigation that began following a vehicle fire reported on June 14, 2026, in the 300 block of Cabin Creek Road.

Through investigative efforts by Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Detectives, 27-year-old Harold Ishameul Patterson of Laurinburg, North Carolina, was identified as a suspect. Detectives traveled to Scotland County, North Carolina, where they worked alongside the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office and Laurinburg Police Department to develop additional evidence.

On June 16, 2026, Patterson was arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder. He is currently being held at the Scotland County Detention Center pending extradition to West Virginia.

The investigation began after Metro 911 received a report of a suspicious vehicle along Cabin Creek Road at approximately 9:50 a.m. on June 14, 2026. Following an autopsy conducted on June 15, preliminary findings determined the death to be a homicide.

Sheriff Joseph Crawford and Chief Sean Snuffer commend the dedicated efforts of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and Patrol Division. Their tireless investigative work led to the rapid identification and apprehension of the suspect.

The Sheriff’s Office also extends its appreciation to the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office, Laurinburg Police Department, West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, and the West Virginia Fusion Center for their assistance throughout the investigation.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Detectives will remain in North Carolina for a short time as they continue to pursue additional investigative leads. The identity of the deceased has not yet been positively confirmed. Additional information will be released once the identification process is complete and appropriate notifications have been made.
