Registered Sex Offender Arrested Multiple Times in 2026, Now Facing Second Firearm Charge
KANAWHA COUNTY, WV — The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office has arrested registered sex offender Harrison Shaffer on a charge of Wanton Endangerment Involving a Firearm.
On August 17, 2026, Kanawha County deputies obtained a warrant for Shaffer following an investigation into an alleged incident involving a firearm.
According to the criminal complaint, Shaffer allegedly pulled out a firearm, racked a round into the chamber, and pointed the firearm at a man while threatening to shoot him.
Shaffer was arrested and processed on the warrant. A $20,000 bond, with a 10% cash option, was set. The required $2,000 was posted by a third party, and Shaffer was released.
Shaffer has previously been arrested or charged multiple times this year, including:

February 2026: Shaffer was arrested by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office on charges of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl. A $15,000 cash/property bond was set, and property was posted for his release.

February 2026: West Virginia State Police charged Shaffer with a sex offender registry violation for allegedly failing to notify authorities of his release from incarceration. A $1,000 cash bond was set, paid, and Shaffer was released.

April 2026: West Virginia State Police charged Shaffer with a sex offender registry violation for allegedly failing to report a change in internet service providers. A $1,000 cash bond was set, paid, and Shaffer was released.
- April 2026: The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office charged Shaffer with obstructing an officer. A $500 cash bond was set and posted.
Shaffer is a registered sex offender stemming from a March 14, 2005 conviction for sexual abuse of a female family member between the ages of 6 and 12 by a parent, guardian or custodian, as well as second-degree sexual assault. Shaffer served approximately 11 years and five months in a correctional facility as a result of those convictions.
Anybody that is arrested is to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
