Update: Name Released in Deputy-Involved Shooting and Pursuit

KANAWHA COUNTY, WV – The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect involved in the April 16, 2026 deputy-involved shooting and subsequent pursuit as David Robert McGuire, 35 of East Bank, WV.

At approximately 6:21 p.m., a Kanawha County Deputy Sheriff was on the scene of a domestic incident involving a female victim when McGuire arrived and opened fire, striking the victim. The deputy returned fire, and McGuire fled the area in a black pickup truck.

A BOLO was issued, and a nearby deputy located the vehicle, initiating a pursuit that traveled through Chesapeake, Marmet, and into the City of Charleston with assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies.

The pursuit continued onto Interstate 79, where the suspect vehicle crashed. McGuire then brandished a firearm, at which time law enforcement officers discharged their weapons. McGuire was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The female victim was transported for medical treatment and is currently listed in stable condition.

No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
