The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is aware of the “Cat in the Hat” trend circulating on social media. At this time, no threats have been made against any schools in Kanawha County.

We are in close contact with Kanawha County Schools and are actively working with school officials to monitor social media and address any concerns that may arise.

Our deputies will be patrolling school areas and working closely with school security officers to help ensure the safety of our students and staff.

We want to remind everyone that making any type of threat against a school—even as a joke—is illegal. Any threat reported to law enforcement will be taken seriously, thoroughly investigated, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Please do not share or participate in posts that could cause unnecessary fear or concern. If you see something that appears to be a legitimate threat, report it to law enforcement or school officials.
