COVID 19 Information

Law Enforcement Division:

From the Office of Sheriff Mike Rutherford:

As we all adapt to the new measures put in place regarding COVID-19, we would like to express what we are doing to continue to protect and serve Kanawha County while keeping Deputies safe from the virus.

The Sheriff has authorized additional staff to be on hand answering phones from citizens to take reports when possible. This limits the personal contact, and the spread of any viruses.
If you have a non-emergency need to talk to a Deputy Sheriff you can call 304-357-0169 and be transferred to one for assistance.

It also frees units on patrol to be in communities ready to respond to disturbances and scenes where evidence needs to be collected. Patrol Deputies will also be in shopping areas more often, to help maintain the peace in these days of adjustment and frustration.

We have, like everyone, been disinfecting our cars, work-spaces, and equipment more often. We’ve also been issuing more protective and cleaning supplies. If you notice Deputies keeping distance, or asking you to meet them outside to talk, please don’t be offended. Understand we are all adjusting how we work to get through this pandemic.

We encourage everyone to follow the guidelines of the CDC and Kanawha-Charleston Health Department. Follow them and us on social media for more updates.
