Sexual Assault of a Child by Stepfather

                On February 2, 2024, Corporal M. Dickerson of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office received a sexual assault complaint involving a 13-year-old juvenile.  The juvenile disclosed sexual assault by Devon Lee Underwood (55-years-old, from East Bank), who is the child’s stepfather.  Also, the victim revealed Mr. Underwood requested sexually explicit images be sent to his mobile phone; the images were sent by the victim.  During a forensic interview, the victim provided a graphic description of the sexual abuse.

                On February 21, 2024, Detective T. Burks arrested Mr. Underwood on felony charges of sexual assault, 3rd degree, distribution and exhibiting of material depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, and sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian, or person in a position of trust to a child.  Mr. Underwood was arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court and assigned a $300,000.00 cash only bond.  As always, Mr. Underwood is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
